2019 Baseball Staff

Head Varsity Coach Steve Strayer

Coach Steve Strayer is in his 27th year as a varsity baseball coach and 17th year as coach of the Bulldogs. Strayer's career record has climbed to 591-222. His teams have won 14 conference championships, 13 Sectionals, and 9 Regionals. He has been named district coach of the year in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2007. He has coached 11 Indiana All-Stars. 50 players have gone on to play college baseball (19 Division I).

A 1985 graduate of Prairie Heights High School, Strayer earned three letters each in basketball and baseball. Strayer played baseball at Calvin College before transferring to Manchester College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and physical education in 1990. He played basketball for three years at Manchester. Strayer went on to teach and coach at Prairie Heights High School for two years and then moved to Boone Grove to become the varsity baseball coach in 1992. In his ten years at Boone, Coach Strayer led his teams to 29 championships including six sectionals and four regional titles.

In his 17 years at Crown Point, the Bulldogs have won 7 sectionals, 5 regionals, and 7 DAC championships. Last year, CP finished the season with a 21-8 record. Coach Strayer teaches geometry and AP statistics at the high school. He resides in Crown Point with his wife Jennifer. Jennifer is a therapist at Franciscan EAP.

Coach Hoffman

Coach Dave Hoffman

Coach Dave Hoffman is in his 4th year of coaching in the Crown Point baseball program, and he will be the varsity assistant coach. Coach Hoffman is a social studies teacher here at Crown Point High School, where he teaches AP Human Geography. Although this is Coach Hoffman’s fourth year at Crown Point, this will be his 11th year coaching baseball. Previously, he spent 3 years as a JV coach at Benton Central and 4 years at Whiting as varsity assistant. Coach Hoffman is a 2006 graduate of Crown Point High School and a 2010 graduate of Purdue University. He currently resides in Crown Point with his wife, and fellow CP teacher, Chloe.


Coach Brett Keeler

This is Brett Keeler’s 3rd year with the Bulldogs. Coach Keeler is a Health Teacher at Colonel Wheeler Middle School here in Crown Point. Brett is a 2008 graduate of Munster High School. He was a 2 year letter winner at Munster, as well as a 2007 Honorable Mention All-State selection. Keeler attended Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville where he played baseball for 4 years and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education. Coach Keeler will be working with the hitters as well as the catchers.

Coach Gloff

Coach Chris Gloff

JV baseball head coach Chris Gloff is in his 2nd year coaching baseball at Crown Point High School. Gloff has coached many years of travel baseball, travel and club soccer, and AAU basketball. He has taught and coached in Northwest Indiana for the last 24 years at Andrean High School, Wilbur Wright Middle School, and, for the last 9 years, at CPHS where he co-advises the radio & TV broadcast program, CPTV Media. He is also an adjunct professor for the education graduate program at Calumet College of Saint Joseph.

Coach Rettig

Coach Scott Rettig

Coach Scott Rettig is in his 9th year with the Bulldogs returning as freshmen coach. He is a 1985 graduate of Crown Point High School and attended Purdue University Calumet. He teaches Technical Drawing at the high school. Scott resides in Crown Point with his wife Melissa and sons Kyle and Carson.

Coach schoonover

Coach Tyler Schoonover

Coach Tyler Schoonover is in his 2nd year coaching in the Crown Point High School baseball program, and he will be freshman assistant coach. Coach Schoonover is a server at Twelve Islands Restaurant on the square in Crown Point. Although this is Coach Schooner’s second year at Crown Point, this will be his 5th year coaching baseball. Previously he spent 4 years playing in the baseball program at Crown Point for Coach Rettig, Coach Gill, and Coach Strayer. Coach Schoonover is a 2016 graduate from Crown Point High School and is currently pursuing a Finance degree at Purdue University Northwest.


Strength Trainer Mark Garrett

Mark Garrett is in his 10th season as Crown Point High School’s strength and conditioning coordinator. Prior to Crown Point High School, Mark was varsity assistant for basketball and football and was the strength coach at Milan High School (1996-2008). Coach Garrett is a graduate of Cloverdale High School (1988), and the University of Maine ’ Presque Isle (1993). Coach Garrett and his wife Wendi live in Crown Point with their four children, A.J., Kerry, Michael, and Mary. He is a member the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a Level III National Level Coach for USA Weightlifting (USAW). He also coaches Hoosier Barbell Club a competitive Olympic style weightlifting team.
